The Model Railroad Display in progress

The permanent train display, or diorama, in the Museum of Ashe History will consist of a thirty by four foot table with an HO scale model train passing through four of its stops in Ashe County.

  • First stop will be Tuckerdale NC, as it was in the mid 20's. Tuckerdale was a main stop for the Hassinger Lumber Company, the town included a hotel, doctor's offices, dry goods store, depot and was a water stop for the Steam Train.
  • Next stop in our display will be Lansing as it was in the mid 30's. Lansing was also a major stop and included a restaurant, and tons of lumber and logs ready to be loaded and hauled back to Koroner Rock Va.
  • Next on the display will be West Jefferson which will be depicted in the mid 40's. It was the largest of the stops where the train could turn around or before 1933, could continue to Todd NC.
  • The last stop in the display will be Todd NC when it was booming in the mid 20's also. Included in Todd were a hotel or inn, a brothel, a water stop, doctors offices, depot and a turn table to turn the locomotive and tinder around for the return trip. The timber industry again was the reason for the boom in Todd.
